Thematic and methodological focus of the proposed courses/laboratories
The module of “Exhibition” within the Interior Design Studio offers a brief overview of the museographical models which could be adopted for displaying and promoting modern and contemporary art, for cultural or business purposes.
A series of lectures will present the main exhibition techniques in relation to artistic movements, illustrating groundbreaking shows and the architecture of the most innovative art galleries. This introduction is aimed at providing a theoretical base for the interior design of a cultural centre set in a historical building in Milan.
The projects elaborated during the course will have to provide solutions to the mutual request to set a multifunctional environment, which could alternatively be an exhibition centre, a place for working and studying, an atelier, an artistic workshop, an educational space, a temporary dwelling for one guest.
The module of “Exhibition” will be completely integrated into the Interior Design Studio programme.
Key Themes:
- interior architecture in relation to an existing, prominent building and a settled urban environment;
- museography and exhibition design in private galleries;
- flexibility and transformability;
- minimum living;
- the design of the threshold as a contact and mediation zone between interior and exterior.
Teaching methods:
Ex-cathedra lectures, guided architectural tours, weekly reviews of the projects and collective seminars.
A final public exhibition will present the most relevant outcomes of the course.
